Geothermal energy, constant heat from beneath our feet.
Geothermal water stored in rock layers delivers heat 24/7, independent of weather and season. We develop geothermal projects for district heating, agriculture and balneology, from confirming the resource to operation.
What geothermal energy is
Geothermal means heat from the Earth's crust. In Romania the resource is low-enthalpy: naturally hot water, roughly 40 to 120 °C, drawn from aquifers at 800 to 3,500 m depth. We do not burn it. We bring it to surface, extract its heat through an exchanger, feed it to the heating network, then reinject the cooled water into the same layer. A complete system is more than the well: it is a coordinated assembly that produces, transfers and conserves the resource for the long term.
Doublet of wells (production + reinjection)
One well brings hot water to surface, a second reinjects the cooled water into the same aquifer. Reinjection maintains reservoir pressure, sustains flow for decades and avoids discharging mineralised water.
Heat exchanger
Geothermal water, usually mineralised, never mixes with the network. A plate exchanger transfers the heat to a clean secondary loop that feeds the thermal points.
Cascade use
The resource is finite, so energy is used in steps: first space heating, then domestic hot water, then greenhouses and aquaculture, then balneology, before reinjection.
Heat pumps
Ground-source heat pumps tap shallow ground heat for buildings, while return-side pumps recover extra energy from the cooled water before reinjection.
Surface plant and network
Wellheads, downhole pumps, filtration and degassing, peaking boilers and controls, connected to the district-heating network through thermal points and substations.
Low-emission heat
Replaces gas and fossil fuels in heating, the hardest energy end-use to decarbonise in the region, with a local and stable source.
One partner, from the subsurface to the heating network
Geothermal carries real risk in exploration and drilling. That is exactly the risk we take on, so the investor receives a confirmed project, not a geological hypothesis.
Resource assessment and exploration
We study existing well and seismic data, run geophysics and, where needed, a confirmation well that verifies temperature, flow and reservoir extent.
Concession and permits
Geothermal water is a mineral resource: the exploitation right is granted by ANRM under Mining Law 85/2003. We add environmental permits, the Romanian Waters approval for reinjection and the building permit required before drilling.
Engineering
Full design: the doublet scheme, pump and exchanger sizing, filtration and degassing, heat-pump integration and the documentation for the heat-network connection.
Drilling and surface plant
Drilling the production and reinjection wells, installing wellheads, pumps, exchangers and peaking boilers, up to a working assembly.
Operation and maintenance
Monitoring, preventive maintenance and cascade optimisation, so the system delivers heat predictably across the life of the reservoir.
Applications
The same resource serves several purposes, in cascade. That is the real value of geothermal: a flexible source of heat, not a single function.
District heating
Heat for neighbourhoods and cities, through networks and thermal points. In Beius, geothermal supplies almost all of the heating, the cheapest heat in Romania.
Greenhouses and agriculture
Mid-temperature heat for greenhouses, soil, plant nurseries and aquaculture, with local production all year round.
Balneology and wellness
Thermal water for treatment and recreation, the oldest geothermal use in Romania, integrated into tourism and medical projects.
Heat pumps for buildings
Ground-source systems for individual buildings and developments, the right answer where there is no deep hydrothermal resource.
Why geothermal changes the economics of heating
Baseload, around the clock
Unlike solar and wind, geothermal delivers heat constantly, independent of weather, well suited to the firm demand of district heating.
A long-term asset
With proper reinjection, the reservoir sustains decades of operation, with predictable output and a stable heat price.
EU funding support
Romania is preparing a subsidy programme for geothermal heating and cooling, funded from the EU Modernisation Fund. We structure the project around these sources.
Real decarbonisation
Across Europe, geothermal could meet up to about a quarter of heating and cooling demand. Locally, it means less imported gas.
Romania and Moldova
Romania's richest resources are in the Western Plain, around Bihor-Oradea and Banat, plus blocks near Bucharest. In Moldova, the realistic near-term opportunity is shallow geothermal through heat pumps.
